Thomas Eastwood had a career in federal law enforcement and intelligence spanning three decades. He retired as Director of the IRS Michigan District where he managed 1500 employees and all IRS activities including criminal investigation, audit, collection, taxpayer service, and administration. He previously served as IRS Director in Milwaukee, Louisville, and Fargo, Dean of the IRS School of Professional Development in Washington, and Assistant Director in Manhattan and Indianapolis. He was a member of the government’s elite Senior Executive Service.
He began his law enforcement career with the US Treasury's Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) before tranferring as a special agent and later executive with the Department of Defense (DoD) where for almost two decades he conducted and led counterintelligence, security, and criminal investigations. His accomplishments include becoming the youngest DoD regional director in history, completing a two-year detail successfully protecting President Carter's national security advisor during a national crisis, and developing interrogation techniques now used by most US agencies. He was also an adjunct professor at the Defense Security Institute in Virginia where he taught investigative and interrogation tactics. He was awarded the Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award and many other awards for exceptional service as both a special agent and executive.
Prior to his service in government he was a psychologist. He has a BS in biology and a MA in psychology. When recruited by the US government he was working toward a PhD in psychology. He was trained by and worked joint investigations with many agencies including ATF, CIA, DEA, DoJ, FBI, IRS, Secret Service, and US military and foreign intelligence agencies.
One of the youngest IRS executives ever to retire, he resides in Florida where he is a public speaker and university lecturer. Candid and willing to express his opinions, he enjoys helping people avoid difficulty with the most misunderstood, feared, and loathed US agency - the IRS. He also speaks extensively on counterintelligence topics, including espionage, interrogations, US intelligence, and WWII intelligence operations.
